Negotiating Committee Elections Procedure

Each Bargaining Unit will elect 4 people.

For the CTV Ltd. Unit the four (4) elected members will join National Rep, Dave Lewington and President, Kelly Dobbs, at the table.

For the Rogers Unit the four (4) elected members will join National Rep, Dave Lewington and Vice-President, Sandy Carroll, at the table.

Campaign materials will be limited to 1 sheet of paper per candidate and will be distributed with ballots. To be included in the ballot mailing the campaign sheet must be received by midnight Wednesday, July 8th, 2009.

Voting will be done by mail from July 10, 2009 to 5:00pm July 28, 2009.

Ballots will contain the names of all the nominees. Members will place a check mark beside the four (4) names of the nominees they wish to elect. Any ballot without exactly four (4) names checked off will be considered a spoiled ballot.
At the end of the voting process the votes will be tallied and results announced.

As in the past, from that point on, the Committees will be in charge of Negotiations. The timing and methods of accepting proposals for changes to the collective agreements will be their decision. Calling of meetings, updates to members on progress of negotiations and any other negotiation related issues are the responsibility of the Negotiating committees.

General Membership Meetings will be held at the Local office to approve proposals.  At these meetings the Negotiation Committees will present a package of proposed changes to the collective agreement. Members will vote on the package as a whole document. If the members approve that package then it will become the committee's presentation to the company at the negotiating table.

Negotiations will proceed with the respective Companies. At some time in the future the Committees will have reached a tentative agreement with the Company on a new collective agreement.

The committee will plan ratification meetings as soon as possible to permit the membership to vote by secret ballot on a tentative agreement.

The meetings for ratification may be scheduled for one or more days. The meetings will be publicized on the company bulletin boards, company email, the local website and home emails. It is the individual member’s responsibility to find out about the ratification meetings and attend to vote on the tentative agreement. There will be no advance polls or proxy ballots permitted.

At the end of the ratification meetings the ballots will be counted and the results announced in the same way the meetings were publicized.

If the vote is to ratify, the negotiations process is over. If the membership rejects the tentative agreement then it is back to the negotiations table.

That's the procedure for negotiations. If you have any questions, please reply to this e mail.  Remember, to vote for the Negotiating Committees, make sure the local office has your current home address and that you have signed a  membership card.
